As you may have noticed, many of my stories are inspired by real-life experiences, and Never Too Little is no exception. This story was born the day my husband and I stood in line to get tested as potential bone marrow donors for a little girl in Knoxville who desperately needed a transplant.

Hundreds of people came out to help. I wasn’t a match for her, but months later, I received a call from the donor registry asking if I’d be willing to donate to someone else. Without hesitation, I said yes.

I had mixed emotions. I was grateful for the opportunity to help but also nervous. I knew the procedure could be painful and might require time off work, and I wasn’t sure I had enough leave. Still, I was committed to doing it.

Then, just as I was making arrangements, I received another call. A closer match had been found. Again, I felt a wave of emotion—relief, happiness for the recipient—but also a bit of sadness. I wanted to make a difference in someone’s life.

That’s the heart of this book: we’re never too little—or too ordinary—to make a difference. Whether it’s through big actions or small kindnesses, what we do matters. And sometimes, simply being willing to help is an act of love all on its own.
