As both a parent and a former educator, I know how important it is to help young children feel safe—especially during uncertain or frightening moments at school. I wrote Bad School Day to support teachers, parents, and kids as they navigate these tough conversations.
In this story, Talley and her kindergarten classmates hear a loud noise they think is fireworks. Their teacher stays calm and responds quickly, modeling the importance of listening and following directions in unexpected situations.
While the topic may feel heavy, my goal was to present it gently—through the eyes of a child—so that adults can use it as a starting point for meaningful, age-appropriate discussions.
I hope this book helps open the door to conversations that empower children and build trust between home and school.
